Many types of symptoms and pain are directly related to the nerves in the back and neck. These nerves can also control pain and sensation in other areas of the body.
At Coastal Spine, we conduct two different tests jointly to study nerves and muscles to determine the extent of your condition. These tests are nerve conduction studies and electromyography (commonly known as an EMG tests).
This part of the study determines the status of any muscle problems by recording the electrical activity of muscles.
The EMG test has a reputation to be very painful and uncomfortable. At Coastal Spine, Dr. Scholl has perfected the art of a “painless” EMG. Using a special technique, we hope to make this test as comfortable as possible with minimal discomfort. The test can take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes.
